About the Collection

In the last few years of his life, Mac assembled a manuscript of poems stored in various manila folders. The Selected Poems on this website was one of these collections. It is the largest version, and one that his friend, the poet Billy Collins, reviewed and commented on, suggesting various edits. We've decided to publish the unedited version, in the state Mac left it, instead of making post mortem decisions.

The archives of Mac Hammond reside in the UB Poetry Room Collection.

About the Design

The serif fonts and pastel colors of this website were designed to evoke the design of small-to-medium volume printing presses popular in the United States from the 1950s through the 1980s.

Many of Mac Hammond’s most well-known works were printed during this era.
